Queer shows win big at Creative Arts Emmys

This year’s Creative Arts ceremonies, at the L.A. Live events deck in downtown Los Angeles, acknowledged three of our favorite shows but there was one huge winner.

The creative and technical achievement awards focused on the artisan categories we often don’t think of, including cinematography, costumes, hairstyling, makeup, production design, editing, hosting and more.

Can you guess which beloved and groundbreaking series took out the Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling, Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic), and Outstanding Contemporary Costumes awards? Yes! Pose Series Finale.

And as if three awards for Pose wasn’t rewarding enough, guess which queer reality TV series bagged four? Outstanding Casting For A Reality Program, Outstanding Directing For A Reality Program, Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Competition Program, and Outstanding Picture Editing For A Structured Reality Or Competition Program all went to RuPaul’s Drag Race!

Plus, Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program went to RuPaul’s Drag Race Untucked.

This was the sixth consecutive time RuPaul Charles won the award for host of a reality or competition program. Charles is set to make history in more ways than one as he has now tied the record for the most Emmy wins by a person of color (tied with cinematographer Donald A. Morgan). If RuPaul’s Drag Race wins at next week’s Emmys for competition program, he will break the record, with 11.

And Queer Eye took home a Creative Arts Emmy award for Outstanding Structured Reality Program.
