Pink Flamingos gets the Criterion treatment
In honor of the film’s 50th anniversary, it has been announced that John Waters’ “trashterpiece” Pink Flamingos will be added to the ever-growing Criterion Collection.
Dedicated to licensing, restoring and distributing important classic and contemporary films, Criterion Collection Inc is a highly respected video distribution company that features many celebrated titles. Pink Flamingos will join Waters’ other films Multiple Maniacs, Female Trouble and Polyester which are already in the collection.
Starring Divine, Pink Flamingos is the story of Babs Johnson also known as “the filthiest woman alive”. Looking to usurp her title, Connie and Raymond Marble show up to challenge Babs. Chaos ensues. Featuring cult star Mink Stole as Connie and the beloved Edith Massey as Edie the Egg Lady, this midnight show classic launched the careers of John Waters and Divine.
The new Criterion edition of the film features the following special features:
- 4K digital restoration supervised and approved by John Waters himself with an uncompressed monaural soundtrack
- Two John Waters commentaries from the 1997 laserdisc and 2001 dvd releases
- A new discussion of the film between filmmaker Jim Jarmusch and Waters
- A tour of the Baltimore filming locations, led by Waters
- Deleted scenes, on set footage
- And lots, lots more!
