John Waters keeps on keeping on
John Waters has certainly been keeping busy.
Since we talked to him back in April, he’s been on a multi-city book tour in support of his debut novel Liarmouth: A Feel-Bad Romance which features the exploits of his new heroine Marsha Sprinkle. Fans have really taken to Marsha and the filthy tale of sex, crime and family dysfunction Waters has built around her. The book is a perfect representation of the deliciously twisted mind of John Waters. We can only dare to hope for a film adaptation.
Speaking of films, Pink Flamingos turned 50 this year, and to celebrate The Criterion Collection released a 50th anniversary special edition earlier this month to mark the occasion. Featuring a jaw-dropping restoration and new special features overseen by the man himself, this disc is a must for any Waters aficionado.
In addition to that, both Waters and Dreamland company star Mink Stole were chosen to be part of the Calvin Klein “This is Love” campaign. Utilizing LGBTQ+ trailblazers, entertainers and advocates, the campaign features non-traditional yet unconditional lovers who talk about their relationships while wearing items off of the “This is Love Collection”. Check out the clip below where Waters and Stole describe the beginning of their decades-spanning friendship.
Last but not least, it was announced this week that our beloved Sultan of Sleaze is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Waters shared his excitement when asked about it by The Baltimore Fishbowl: “I am really excited about it! Are you kidding?! I wish my parents were alive.” Waters was one of 24 inductees to the Walk of Fame which honors celebrities in motion picture, television, recording and live theater. The ceremony will be held next year.
