Emma Corrin is first non-binary person featured on cover of Vogue

Emma Corrin, star of Netflix’s The Crown and the upcoming Amazon feature My Policeman is the first nonbinary person to be featured on the cover of American Vogue. Corrin, who uses they/them pronouns, graces the August cover wearing a Louis Vuitton tank dress, Cartier necklace and a navy-blue baseball cap over a tousled pageboy haircut.

A lot of the Vogue feature focuses on Corrin’s navigation of queerness; their gender identity, dating life and chosen family. “In my mind, gender just isn’t something that feels fixed,” they said, “and I don’t know if it ever will be; there might always be some fluidity there for me.”

They went on to describe their first date with a girl who was generous enough to share a lot of insight into queer life with the young star even though their relationship went no further than that. Corrin says they are eager to build a queer and trans community for themselves as opposed to dating right now anyway. They are using Instagram to network, and they say they’ve met some amazing people through there.

That’s not to say that they don’t already have an LGBTQ+ presence in their life. They also revealed to Vogue that their brother is bisexual and was very supportive towards them when they came out to their mother about dating women. Not only that, but they are best friends with Dan Levy of Schitt’s Creek fame, another queer icon.

When it comes to Corrin’s professional life they are described as fearless, thoughtful and risk-taking by their collaborators. This is true with respect to their on-screen performances and their public persona. Corrin has definitely shown their playfulness and camp sensibility with fashion as evidenced by their attire for the Olivier Awards which consisted of a Loewe balloon bra over a floral dress and the Met Gala where they wore a custom Miu Miu coat and top hat inspired by 1880’s socialite Evander Berry Wall the “King of Dudes”.

Whether you are inspired by Corrin’s fashion choices or not, one thing is clear: their star continues to rise. Their appearance on the cover on what is considered by some to be the definitive fashion magazine for women is sending a bold and well-timed message into the ethos. We love to see it.
