First trailer for AMC’s Interview With the Vampire is very queer

The trailer for AMC’s Interview With the Vampire series has dropped, showing off some very queer elements.

This debut followed the show’s Comic-Con panel, which had happened earlier in the week.

Interview With the Vampire is Anne Rice’s best-selling novel, and follows Louis de Pointe du Lac as he gives his life and undeath story to a reporter. Louis became a vampire thanks to his sire, Lestat de Lioncourt, who he also had a romance and adopted vampire child named Claudia with. It was previously adapted as a 1994 film starring Kirsten Dunst, Tom Cruise, and Brad Pitt.

The AMC series is a modern reimagining of this story. Instead of a traditional reporter, Louis (played by Game of Thrones’ Jacob Anderson) is telling his tale to a journalist on podcast. In the trailer, we see that Louis is tempted by Lestat’s (played by Sam Reid) vampiric offer as it could offer him actual freedom as a Black man in 1900’s New Orleans. Despite this, he’s torn, and seeks out the aid of the church to make up his mind. Lestat makes short work of the priest however, and Louis is set down a path with him and eventually Claudia (played by Bailey Bass) as well.

Fans can look forward to sinking their teeth into this adaptation starting October 2. This show will have seven episodes in the first season, according to a report from Variety. Rolin Jones adapted the book for this series and is also its showrunner. Mark Johnson and Alan Taylor are the show’s executive producers, and Taylor is directing the first two episodes of the show.

AMC is also adapting another of Rice’s series, Lives of the Mayfair Witches, which will star Alexandra Daddario as the protagonist Rowan. Rice was set to executive produce both series before she died in December. Her son Christopher is still on board as an executive producer for both shows.
