The Legendary Grace Jones Headlines World Pride’s Pride Island

Grace Jones will take center stage for an unforgettable day of music on Saturday, June 29th at Pier 97. Jones is most famously known for her post-disco dance track “Pull Up to the Bumper,” and an array of features in motion pictures including “Conan the Destroyer,” “Vamp,” and the 1992 classic, “Boomerang.”

Pride Island is a multi-day event taking place all throughout World Pride weekend at Pier 97 in New York City. Jones will be joined by rapper Teyana Taylor, Brazilian drag sensation Pabllo Vittar, and more to be announced.

“We’re thrilled to be able to create this multi-day experience, which speaks to an inclusive set of Pride- goers, during one of the biggest Pride events in the world,” Chris Frederick, Managing Director, NYC Pride, said via a press release.

“With the iconic Grace Jones headlining on Saturday and the incredible list of curated talent, this musical experience is definitely not to be missed.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to perform in front of my LGBTQIA+ friends and the community that’s supported me for so many years during WorldPride 2019 | Stonewall 50,” says Jones.

“Saturday’s Pride Island lineup will be a celebration of everything that the community stands for and will go down in illustrious history.”

Joining Jones, Taylor, and Vittar are Afro-Latina pop star Amara La Negra and legendary New York City DJ Johnny Dynell, with DJs Abel and Morabito on decks as well. A headliner for Sunday night will be announced soon.

“We’re planning an action-packed weekend of live performances, that will build upon the excitement of what Pride attendees know as Pride Island, for our biggest and most inclusive year yet,” says Pride Island Director Jose Ramos.

“We’re turning up the heat this year, in honor of WorldPride 2019 | Stonewall 50. It’s slated to be a truly unforgettable celebration.”
