Triana Davis, a hard-working elementary school teacher from Byram, Miss. is one of the first recipients of a Mazda Hero award — and the proud owner of a brand new Mazda MX-5 Miata, 100th Anniversary Special Edition.
Triana is part of the first round of Mazda Heroes, an initiative which celebrates the humble, creative, and impactful efforts made by the winners who were nominated by someone close to them.
This year marks Mazda’s 100th anniversary. In a year that the auto giant had hoped to celebrate with moments of appreciation for fans, employees, and partners worldwide, it have pivoted to doing what they do best: giving back to their respective communities.
Remote teaching and learning has been a challenge for educators and for students across the nation, but for some families, lack of home computers and internet access have made it especially difficult.
At the height of the pandemic, Triana created and personally delivered custom curriculum to her students facing this situation to keep them engaged.
To encourage her students who missed out on the traditions of graduation, Triana created special commemorative T-shirts, goodie bags, and custom-engraved medals. And that selfless dedication to her community is what makes Triana a Mazda Hero. Mazda will honor 50 people with this award — a special piece of the automaker’s history: a Mazda MX-5 Miata 100th Anniversary Special Edition.
“This year has been full of challenges and we wanted to lean into our brand’s heritage of finding innovative ways to brighten people’s lives,” MNAO President Jeff Guyton said. “We were inspired to create the Mazda Heroes program to honor all those who are working tirelessly to uplift their own communities. We hope through Mazda’s acknowledgment of their efforts, they’ll feel empowered to continue to give back to those around them.”
