Biden 2024 campaign vows to lower costs for seniors as poll reveals ‘too old’ fears

As Joe Biden and Kamala Harris ramp up their campaigning for the 2024 election, the following is a statement from Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Campaign Manager for Biden-Harris 2024 has been released.

For decades, presidents have tried to take on Big Pharma on behalf of seniors, but President Biden finally got it done. Thanks to President Biden’s leadership, millions of seniors, including those taking life-saving medication to prevent heart failure or to manage chronic diseases like diabetes, will see their drug costs significantly lowered. Today’s announcement is on top of capping insulin costs for seniors at $35 a month, and permanent health care subsidies that are making health care cheaper for the American people.

Elections have consequences. Because a historic number of Americans came together in 2020 to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, seniors across America will begin paying less when they pick up their medicine at the pharmacy. That is what delivering results looks like.

But that progress is all on the line in 2024. MAGA Republicans running for president want to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, which would deliver a massive win for Big Pharma and increase costs for the American people. The choice in this election is between a President focused on you, and a slate of candidates focused on extreme policies that put their wealthy donors first.

On Tuesday night, Senator Amy Klobuchar said on MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell this win comes after numerous presidents have tried for decades to take on Big Pharma on behalf of seniors – but President Biden finally delivered.

Sen. Klobuchar said, “Seniors aren’t going to go backward, nor are the people of this country, when it comes to drug prices. So, I think this will be a major issue in this campaign, especially when you’ve got the fact that Joe Biden, after years and years of inaction on this issue – I’ve been toiling away, leading the bill on this – and finally, because of a president that stood up, we’ve been able to get this done.”

However, ironically Biden’s commitment to seniors comes in the same week as a poll found that most Americans believe Joe Biden is too old to serve as President.

The new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that a majority of the public believe that Biden is too old to fulfill the demands of a second term in office.

In the poll, fully 77% said Biden is too old to be effective for four more years. According to AP, not only do 89% of Republicans say that, but so do 69% of Democrats. However, Democrats in general are more supportive of his 2024 bid.
