Check out Betty Who’s brand new single

Charismatic singer-songwriter Betty Who has released an anthemic new single as a celebration of Pride.

Blow Out My Candle” released via BMG, and an accompanying music video made its broadcast premiere on MTV Live and MTVU. The adorable Aussie singer has made a triumphant return with the single which donates a part of the proceeds from its promotional candle to GLAAD.

Betty previously performed at the 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in 2019 and is a frequent collaborator with the nonprofit, as well as with The Trevor Project, whom she worked with on previous tours.

In true Betty Who form, “Blow Out My Candle is catchy and upbeat with an ‘80s-inspired dance-y beat and an anthem that preaches perseverance, with a the chorus: “You can blow out my candle, but you you’ll never put out my fire.”

The video, directed by Tyler Cunningham, shows Betty Who as she dances around in a Jamie Lee Curtis-inspired workout leotard, sweatband, and high socks, singing about self confidence and love.

“It’s been a long couple years for all of us. I spent my time off learning to bake (of course)…and incessantly thinking all day and all night about what kind of music I wanted to return with. “Blow Out My Candle” is the story I want to share most. The feeling I held onto in the darkest moments of the last couple years. I hope it gives you the confidence and motivation it gives me,” says Betty Who about the single.

“BlowOut My Candle” was written by Betty and co-produced with longtime friend and collaborator Martin Johnson (“The Night Game/Boys Like Girls”) – is the perfect primer to announce a new chapter for Betty.

Betty continues to work for the LGBTQ+ community, teaming up with GLAAD to fight the anti-trans/anti-LGBTQ legislation by urging folks to vote. You can pledge to vote here. In partnership with GLAAD, the song will serve to be a vehicle for change and drive awareness for the GLAAD Vote with Pride program that looks to increase voter turnout. Keeping with the theme of the song, she also has also released a Betty Who candle, with a percentage of the proceeds going to GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization The candles are available for purchase here.

About Betty Who

If you need to know anything about Australian-American pop trailblazer Betty Who, it’s that she is a survivor. Born Jessica Newham in Sydney, Australia, the classically trained singer, dancer, and multi-instrumentalist has experienced practically every dimension of pop cultural visibility: going viral on the bombastic strength of 2014 single “Somebody Loves You,” soundtracking Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot with “All Things,” forming deep ties with foundations like GLAAD and the Trevor Project, and becoming an LGBTQ+ icon due to her infectious, always-inclusive artistry. Moving from the rigid major-label machinery to rediscovering her power as an independent artist, Betty Who is primed to kick off her latest, most triumphant chapter on her upcoming project.
