Dionne Warwick is everyone’s favorite Twitter Auntie

Dionne Warwick has been throwing some hilarious, playful shade while also supporting the LGBTQ community on Twitter, and we love to see it!

If you haven’t been keeping up with the latest news from the Twitter universe, you may have missed the fact that legendary singer and LGBTQ ally Dionne Warwick has recently become everyone’s new favorite “Auntie” on Twitter. The 80 year-old five-time Grammy Award-winner has gotten rather popular within the past month following a series of funny and endearing Tweets.

Weeks ago, she absolutely slayed us when she playfully trolled both The Weeknd and Chance the Rapper. “If you have ‘The’ in your name I’m coming for you. I need answers today”, the singer proclaims.

Auntie Dionne started off by directing her first question to three-time Grammy Award-winning rapper Chance the Rapper.  “Hi, @chancetherapper, If you are very obviously a rapper why did you put it in your stage name? I cannot stop thinking about this,” she tweeted.

Chance The Rapper promptly responded back, stating that he was thrilled she even knew who he was. “Sorry, I’m still freaking out that u know who I am. This is amazing!” he responded. “I will be whatever you wanna call me Ms. Warwick. God bless you.”

Auntie Dionne then directed her next question to three-time Grammy Award-winning and recent 9-time American Music Award-winner The Weeknd. “The Weeknd is next. Why? It’s not even spelled correctly?” she asked the singer about his deliberately misspelled name.

Aside from hilariously poking fun at young entertainers, Warwick has also recently shown support for the LGBTQ community. On December 1, she Tweeted alongside Pride and Trans flag emojis: “You are valid, loved, and heard.”

Then, on December 14, Auntie Warwick announced that she would be educating herself on LGBTQ flag colors before releasing any new merchandise. “I am learning about the different LGBTQ flag colors before I release any merchandise. I want to make sure I am as inclusive and respectful as possible,” she announces before hilariously adding, “You should be able to be a Hussy by Christmas or New Year”, in reference to new merchandise that may apparently include a few “Hussy” tees and hoodies.

When a fan replied to this Tweet to tell Warwick that they should “do the same” since they assumed “it was a rainbow this whole time”, Warwick replies back saying that she is also “learning about pronouns”, and promises that she will share what she has learned as soon as possible.

“Let’s all work together to be more knowledgeable and inclusive,” she then adds.

Though the singer has just recently won the hearts of a new batch of young LGBTQ fans, many older fans know that she is no stranger to being an LGBTQ ally and activist. On World AIDS Day, the singer also reflected on her work throughout the decades as an HIV/AIDS, and her tremendous support of people living with HIV/AIDS.

She also shared a video from NowThis which recognized Warwick for raising $3 million for HIV/AIDS research with her song “That’s What Friends Are For”, which was recorded with fellow singers and musicians Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Gladys Knight. “Always so proud of this,” the singer tweeted.

Many also remember that Auntie Warwick was also appointed ambassador for health by president Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, in recognition of her activism in HIV and AIDS. During this time, she also famously spoke out in favor of people living with HIV/AIDS with a speech in which she famously stated: “People with AIDS are people. They are families, they are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, friends, neighbours. Just people.”

But if through my work I am able to save one life, to bring one family closer together in their time of need, to bring a ray of sunshine to the downtrodden, then I will consider my work well done and not to have been in vain.
