Don’t miss the boat: Post-Oscars, a new ‘Titanic’ sets sail

Following the Oscars, it’s only fair to pay tribute, homage and even parody one of the Academy Award’s biggest winners, Titanic.

A show called “Titanique: The Maiden Voyage Concert” has been wowing live audiences since it was created several years ago. But they aren’t letting any icebergs or viruses keep it down and it returns virtually Sunday, May 2 at 7:30pm EST.

Having started in Los Angeles and then moving to New York, winning a 2019 BroadwayWorld Cabaret Award, this take on the familiar story has infused hilarious comedic elements (apparently the sinking of the ship isn’t funny enough) and an array of Celine Dion songs added, making it a can’t miss musical – especially for fans of cabaret, musical theatre and Celine Dion.

Not only does the show incorporate Dion into the story, but her diva character will belt out songs that will make more than her heart go on. The cast is as legendary as the Dion character as well. Co-creator Marla Mindelle from “Sister Act” takes on the role of Celine while co-creator Constantine Rousouli from the hit musicals “Cruel Intentions” and “Wicked” will have a field day as Jack, pairing up with Alex Ellis from “Thoroughly Modern Millie” fame as Rose.

A casting note to watch would be flamboyantly fun  Frankie J. Grande (from “Big Brother” ) take on the role of Victor Garber. Many of the performers involved in the behind-the-scenes production will certainly add to ensuring their creative vision is seen intact. Mindelle and Rousouli worked on the creation of the show with director Tye Blue, who has worked on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and a season of one of my favorite new streaming obsessions “Inside Boys.”

As we’re getting vaccinated and theatres are starting to open, social distancing and virtual experiences are still a thing. Even though we’re all not in New York, it won’t matter. You can stream this fun even Sunday and feel as if you’re there. Also, if you’re a common-folk and used to steerage like Jack and want to feel like a VIP like Rose, you can get some great VIP perks as well.
