Escape the pandemic, take a road trip to Montauk
Tired of lockdown, it was time to travel again, but where, and how to do it safely?
As someone who is used to traveling often, it has been a challenge to find domestic, drivable journeys to satisfy my wanderlust during this pandemic. After some research over the past few months, I have been surprised at how many amazing destinations there are on the east coast.
My latest find led us to “The End” of New York in beautiful Montauk. I had always heard how gorgeous this spot is, but I had never personally spent time there.
Our vacation began with checking into the classic and stunning, Gurney’s Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa. I have had many friends and colleagues share their stories from this hotel. I was looking forward to creating some of my own.
Gurney’s is the only luxury hotel in the Hamptons that is located right on the beach. The moment we checked in, I felt relaxed by the decor and sound of the ocean. And during our current Covid times, all necessary protocols had been put in place to make the vacation a safe and healthy one for the staff and guests.
Upon entering our room, we were taken by the beautiful balcony and sound of the crashing waves. It was so peaceful to sleep with our door open and enjoy a coffee while watching the ocean.

The outdoor fire pit area was one of our favorite spots for a drink and an appetizer. The large pit with seating (all socially distanced) along with heat burners around the area offered a cozy spot to relax and chat.
We had a couple of additional highlights on our trip. Long Island is known for having some reputable wineries. One that was near us and was open for tastings is called Wolffer Estate. We made a reservation for a tasting and lunch. The estate was stunning and offered different tiers of a tasting experience. They are best known for their Rose wine called Summer in a Bottle. I look forward to sharing some summer in a bottle in 2020!
We planned this trip as a celebration of our son’s 21st birthday. His favorite activity is to go fishing. Montauk is known for some really fantastic fishing. The hotel concierge was kind enough to refer me to a ship captain who could create a special charter fishing experience for my son. Captain Lou onboard the Gianna Helena Charters was everything and more than we could have asked for. Captain Lou was professional, charismatic and provided a once in a lifetime experience that my son will not forget.
