Outer Banks season 3 takes #1 spot in Nielsen streaming report

Netflix’s hit show Outer Banks returned on February 23 for its highly anticipated third season with ten brand new hour long episodes—and out pansexual actress Madison Bailey. Season three so far has been a massive hit with 3 billion minutes viewed.

Variety reports that the release of the third season of Outer Banks made an impressive showing on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10, becoming the most viewed title of the week. The teen drama was watched for 3.2 billion minutes during the Feb. 20-26 viewing window, during which Season 3 was available for four days. According to Nielsen, Seasons 1 and 2 were cumulatively viewed for about one billion minutes during this interval, meaning that one-third of the viewership came from fans who rewatched or newly discovered the series ahead of Season 3’s launch.

The show, which is set in coastal town along the Outer Banks in North Carolina, examines the social divide between wealthy seasonal residents or “Kooks” and working-class locals called “Pogues”. The series follows a group of Pogue teenagers who live at The Cut who are determined to find out what happened to the missing father of the group’s leader, John B. Along the way they discover a legendary treasure tied to the missing man.

After losing their gold and fleeing the Outer Banks, Season 3 finds the Pogues washed ashore on a desert island that, for a brief moment, seems like an idyllic home. Officially deemed “Poguelandia,” the island’s newest residents spend their days fishing, swimming, and reveling in the carefree lifestyle of their temporary dwelling. But things quickly go south for John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo when they find themselves once again caught up in a race for the treasure, quite literally running for their lives. They’re broke and far from home, they can’t trust anyone, Ward and Rafe are hungry for revenge, and there’s a ruthless Caribbean Don who will stop at nothing to find the bounty. Was the treasure ever within their reach? Or was it all a trap to stop them once and for all? Either way, it’s the Pogues against the world – and the only way out is together.
