Here are this year’s Lambda Literary nominees

Lambda Literary, the nation’s premier LGBTQ literary arts organization, has announced its SHORTLIST of FINALISTS for the 35th Annual Lambda Literary Awards – aka “the Lammys!”

This year, the Lammys celebrates 35 years of championing the crucial role LGBTQ+ writers play in shaping the world. In today’s cultural climate, when our work is perhaps at its most critical, Lambda Literary reclaims its place as the premier Pride Month opening celebration by returning IN PERSON for the first time since 2019. The celebration will be held in high-stepping style at our new home on Broadway, NYC’s Art Deco Classic The Edison Ballroom!

To announce this year’s Lammy Award winners, special prize winners, and community honorees, this year’s Lammys offers its first HYBRID format featuring a live virtual experience which meets with our in-person event.

New executive director Samiya Bashir says “our writers represent our greatest culture creators. In a moment when our voices and our stories are being weaponized against our very lives across the country, supporting our storytellers- whether their media centers the page, the stage or the survey, is more critical by the day. Lambda Literary has embarked on a truly transformational year- growing its size and capacity to meet our cultural moment where our communities need us most. Supporting the Lammys not only makes that work possible, but does so while providing a sanctuary of celebration. Here our voices, and our lives are (celebrated), and our stories are artfully, joyfully told.”

For many LGBTQ authors, the Lammys were among the first awards to recognize their work, and the list of past winners includes many names still widely celebrated, including: Dorothy Allison, Alison Bechdel, Richard Blanco, Charles M. Blow,  Susan Choi, Michael Cunningham, Roxane Gay, Tony Kushner, Audre Lorde,  Carmen Maria Machado, and Jacqueline Woodson, among many others. Now offering the most widely diverse selection of awards, alongside the greatest amount of special prize money in our history, the Lammys have continued to evolve as they seek to celebrate the vast range of LGBTQ literature.

Lewis.  Finalists and winners will be formally and fashionably celebrated at June 9th’s awards ceremony – held at the Lammy’s new home, the Edison Ballroom, New York City’s Art Deco classic on Friday, June 9th.
