New Alexandra Billings film headed our way!

Transgender acting pioneer Alexandra Billings helms Queen Tut, new comedy-drama about a trans woman who mentors a young immigrant in the ways of drag.

Cinephobia Releasing announced it has acquired the US and UK rights to Reem Morsi’s Queen Tut, a Canadian comedy/drama from production company Fae Pictures and producer Shant Joshi.

The film stars Alexandra Billings (Transparent, The Peripheral) as Malibu, a trans woman who becomes a drag mother to a shy young Egyptian immigrant who desperately wants to come out as well as learn the ways of the glittery drag world. All the while, Malibu’s historic gay bar faces closure from gentrification.

Cinephobia’s Ray Murray said, “Queen Tut is not only an entertaining coming out drag tale highlighted by Billings star turn but is also an important film of its time to counter today’s trans/drag-phobia percolating in some far-right states (I’m talking to you Florida).”

Cinephobia plans a fall-winter film festival run followed by a limited theatrical and then DVD and VOD in 2024.
