Pulse Day of Remembrance: We Will Not Let Hate Win

Queer Forty Magazine would like us all to take a moment to remember the 49 lives that were lost during the Pulse Nightclub shooting on June 12, 2016 in Orlando, Florida.

We commemorate this day with a special call to our community to always denounce hate in all forms, and support love, equality, justice and intersectionality in every aspect of our community. We urge you to take this Pride month to reflect on how we can continue to bring awareness, support diversity and inclusion, and create space for all members of our community regardless of race, age, body type, gender identity or expression, or disability, and how we can take those reflections and transform them into actions that continue to move us on a path forward.

We encourage our readers to view the 4-Year Pulse Annual Remembrance Ceremony to honor the 49 Angels whose lives were tragically taken, including survivors, first responders, trauma teams, and all the lives affected. The ceremony has been pre-recorded and can be seen on the onePULSE Foundation Facebook page or the onePULSE Foundation YouTube Channel on Friday, June 12 at 7 p.m.

The program includes the reading of the names by Family Members, remarks from City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings, onePULSE Foundation Board Chair Earl Crittenden, and onePULSE CEO Barbara Poma.

To further reflect on this day, onePULSE has made the virtual tour of the Pulse Interim Memorial available at: https://onepulsefoundation.org.

In addition, they are asking all those whose lives were affected to share their remembrances on social media using #Wewillnotlethatewin. The Orlando United Assistance Center continues to offer resources for those impacted by the Pulse tragedy to assist with emotional healing.

The onePULSE Foundation is asking the community to join together again, in a different way this year, as a symbol of strength and solidarity in the face of tragedy, forever proving: We will not let hate win.
