‘Queer As Folk’ Cast Reunites for 20th Anniversary Charity Auction

Twenty years after the US version of Queer as Folk first premiered, the cast of the popular Showtime TV series are set to reunite for a special reunion and charity auction to raise money for LGBTQ causes.

The stars of the hit LGBTQ series based on Russell T. Davies’ groundbreaking British drama will take part in a virtual reunion on May 1, where fans will be given the opportunity to bid on Queer as Folk memorabilia. The effort will help raise funds for LGBTQ people affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Scott Lowell, who played Ted Schmidt on the show, is set to host the event. Other stars, including Randy Harrison (Justin Taylor), Sharon Gless (Debbie Novotny), Peter Paige (Emmett Honeycutt), Michelle Clunie (Melanie Marcus), Hal Sparks (Michael Novotny) and Robert Gant (Ben Bruckner), will reunite alongside show creators Ron Cowen and Dan Lipman.

The money raised will go to Centrelink, a network of more than 250 LGBTQ centres across the US, Canada, China, Mexico, and Australia whose charitable efforts are currently focused on helping the elderly, homeless, and those with underlying health conditions. Appearances by other celebrities are soon to be announced.

The US version of Queer as Folk ran for five seasons on Showtime from 2000 to 2005. It followed the success of the original British series, which starred Aiden Gillan and Charlie Hunnam.

The show was relocated from Manchester, UK to Pittsburgh for the US version. It was the first hour-long drama series to center on the lives of homosexual men and women, expanding on the topics addressed in Davies’ original, which only ran for 10 episodes.

The Queer as Folk 20th anniversary reunion will be livestreamed on YouTube on May 1 at 11am PT/2pm ET in the US (5pm BST in the UK).
