South Floria seniors report having their political party changed to Republican
According to a report last week from Local 10 News, numerous residents of South Florida retirement homes have had their party affiliation unknowingly changed to Republican by Florida Republican Party operatives.
The report states that several residents of the Haley Sofge Towers, a Miami-Dade public housing complex, unknowingly had their party registration changed after “updating” their voter registration with “people with clipboard and Republican Party of Florida hats.”
The allegations have surfaced after a December 2021 report finding that an 84-year-old resident of Little Havana, who had been a lifelong Democrat, had her voter registration unknowingly changed to Republican after being approached by a third-party voter registration agent working on behalf of the Republican Party of Florida.
There are suggestions that these operatives are deliberately confusing and taking advantage of elderly voters and voters who don’t speak fluent English.
In response, Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz sent a letter to Florida Secretary of State Laurel Lee calling on the Secretary to open an investigation into these irregularities to ensure that the Republican Party of Florida and related political organizations are not intentionally duping Florida voters.
