TGIF: Our preferred Summer sip is The Kraken Gold Spiced Rum

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy a beast of a cocktail! We’re delighted to introduce you to an unexpected spirit perfect for Summer sipping.

With National Rum Day (8/16) right around the corner, it’s a good time to get reacquainted with rum, and give the vodka, gin, and tequila a rest. This season’s hottest rum is The Kraken Gold Spiced Rum!

A rich, gold spiced Caribbean rum, The Kraken Gold Spiced Rum will surprise your senses. On the nose it teases with a medley of caramel, oak, and banana bread. On the tongue are flavors of molasses and dark spice, caramelized sugar, with a finish of toasted oak and vanilla.

Lander Otegui, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Proximo Spirits said, “We are confident that this product will be the new gold standard in spiced rum thanks to its superb taste that we know matches what our consumers are looking for.”

The Kraken Gold Spiced Rum is 35% ABV and sold nationwide at a $21.99 MSRP per 750ml. It is also available in 1L and 1.75L bottles.

Bold yet versatile, this rum can be sipped neat or enjoyed in a refreshing, summer cocktail such as a Spicy Mango Frozen Daiquiri, Kraken Passionfruit Daiquiri, Kraken Beach Bucket, or the very fun and adult Kraken Daiquiri Ice Pops. Try out these recipes next time you’re looking to cool off and get a nice buzz going.

Spicy Mango Frozen Daiquiri

Nothing says you’re on vacation like a frozen daiquiri of any kind. Thought to have risen to prominence in the 1920s and 1930s in Cuba, the frozen daiquiri was the discovery of Constantino “Constante” Ribalaigua Vert, bartender and owner of a little bar in Havana called Floridita, who perfected the drink with crushed ice and an electric blender. To this day there is something about the frozen daiquiri that conjures images of sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, and pirates.

  •  3 parts The Kraken Gold Spiced Rum
  •  1.5 part Lime Juice
  • .5 part Sugar Syrup
  • 1 12-ounce Bag of Frozen Mango
  • 1 part Triple Sec

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a glass. Garnish with lime wheel. Rim with honey and mango chili rimming salt and enjoy.

Kraken Daiquiri

If you prefer your daiquiri to be sweeter and less spicy, but still with that exotic fruit flavor, this recipe combines the tantalizing tang of passionfruit, which marries very with the inherent flavors of the gold spiced rum, in a rich and tropical combination. The passionfruit will have you feeling away: of native origin throughout northern Argentina, Paraguay, and southern Brazil, it’s also often found growing domestically in Australia and is widely grown in the tropics and subtropics worldwide.

Kraken Beach Bucket

Mix a batch of cocktails before you head off to the beach or out to the pool. The Kraken Beach Bucket is both tipsy and refreshing/hydrating with its splash of coconut water and base of Limeade. And honestly, if you’re managing a hangover, you could just as easily sub it out with some Gatorade! Throw in a few chunks of frozen pineapple (or frozen green grapes) to garnish and to keep it cool or freeze the whole drink to make a slushy to enjoy in the sun.

Kraken Daiquiri Ice Pops

Ice pops are perhaps the most nostalgic taste sensation of Summer. The ice pop, which was the “original” popsicle, dates back to the early 1900s in San Francisco, when Francis William “Frank” Epperson let lemonade freeze on a stick and thus made a discovery that has been a comfort to countless kids ever since.

  • 3 parts Kraken® Black Spiced Rum
  • 4 parts Passionfruit Juice (also works with OJ or Coke!)
  • 1.5 part Lime Juice
  • .5 part Sugar Syrup
  • 1 part Triple Sec
  • Edible gold dust to garnish

Directions: Pour into ice pop sleeve and freeze to set

And if you’re sick and tired of all this Barbie fever, subvert the norm with this twist on a Mimosa:

Kraken Mimosa

The blockbuster movie of the Summer is a certain comedy about a certain slender doll and female stereotype searching for happiness. Well, we gays know that happiness can often be found at the bottom of several mimosas, and so here is the ultimate Anti-Barbie cocktail, a Kraken spin on the trending Hawaiian Mimosa — this one showcasing Barbie as the garnish after her encounter with the ultimate sea beast, The Kraken.

  • 1½ ounces Kraken Gold Spiced Rum
  • 2 ounces of pineapple juice
  • ½ ounce grenadine
  • 4 ounces prosecco or champagne chilled

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a glass. Garnish with pineapple slices, cherries and a Barbie arm or leg.
