VH1 greenlights RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15

Keep those engines revving squirrel friends, RuPaul’s Drag Race has just been renewed for season 15!

The landmark competition reality show was renewed by VH1 along with the companion series RuPaul’s Drag Race Untucked. This new season will mark the 200th episode of the series. The announcement comes on the heels (pun intended) of the 11 Emmy nominations for the show including Outstanding Competition Program and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program.

“When I hear season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, I have to pinch myself – I just won’t tell you where,” said RuPaul, who in addition to hosting, serves as an executive producer on the show. “We never take for granted the opportunity we’ve been given to showcase drag excellence and tell authentic queer stories. Thank you to the fans, World of Wonder, VH1, our cast and crew, and most of all, our brave and beautiful queens.”

The impact RuPaul’s Drag Race has had on pop culture cannot be overstated. The show has propelled drag into the mainstream, giving visibility to this previously underground artform like nothing else. The show has launched the careers of many of today’s most successful drag queens including Jinkx Monsoon, the recent winner of the All Stars, All Winners season, Trixie Mattel, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season 3, and Bianca Del Rio, the winner of Drag Race season 6.

Much like any successful television show, Drag Race has had several spin offs like: All Stars, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, UK vs The World and RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race, season 2 of which recently premiered on August 12. There are also franchised versions of the show not hosted by RuPaul in Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Thailand, Holland, and one on the way from the Philippines. There is no longer any wait time between seasons of Drag Race, with a new season typically picking up immediately after one finishes; much to the delight of fans worldwide.

And so, as the anticipation builds for season 15 all we have to say to the new crop of queens is, in the immortal words of Mama Ru herself: “Good luck, and don’t f@#k it up!”
