Britney Spears and Elton John score top 10 Billboard hit

It’s official! After six long years, Britney Spears has landed her 14th Billboard Top 10 hit in the USA with “Hold Me Closer”,  her hotly anticipated collaboration with Elton John.

The song marks the 29th Top 10 hit in the states for the Rocket Man, who has so lovingly ushered the pop princess back into the spotlight.

“This is someone who has been through hell, who needed some love in her life, a lot of love from a lot of people, and she’s getting it” said Sir Elton to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in an interview promoting the release; “She hadn’t really made any music since 2016, so it’s all about her for me. Life unfolds on an incredible speed, and I don’t know what will happen, but I’m so thrilled this is happening because I love the record.” he continued.

Spears has been equally complimentary on Twitter  saying “I’ve had the opportunity to work with someone who is beautiful and kind on all levels…I’m honored and I feel loved by his awareness and acknowledgement, not by only my involvement with a song but by my struggles and what I’ve been through !!! He knows the hardships of the world on a bigger scale …”

The Billboard Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data. “Hold Me Closer” opens this week with 20.9 million in radio airplay audience, 11.1 million streams and 48,000 sold, thus earning its number 6 position on the chart.
