Hocus Pocus 2 drops official trailer!

It’s been more than two months since the teaser trailer dropped for Hocus Pocus 2, but at long last Disney has released the official trailer to the widely anticipated sequel.

In the new trailer, dropped on September 9 at the Disney D23 Expo, we get a long awaited glimpse at the origin of our beloved Sanderson sisters. Apparently, on Winifred’s 16th birthday she and her two sisters were banished from Salem–forever! In the dark and desolate woods the trio is visited upon by a glamorous and powerful witch (Hannah Waddingham, Ted Lasso) who proclaims the townspeople were right to fear the sisters and thereby gifts Winifred with her enchanted spell book as a gift for her birthday.

We flash forward to modern day Salem where two teens, Becca (Whitney Peak, Gossip Girl) and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo, American Horror Stories) are unknowingly gifted the black flame candle by Gilbert (Sam Richardson, The Afterparty Veep), a local magic shop owner for Becca’s 16th birthday. The girls light the candle during a ritual and accidently resurrect the Sanderson sisters!

The original Hocus Pocus from 1993 is not only a Halloween favorite, but also, a queer classic. Starring three gay icons: Bette Midler (Winifred Sanderson), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah Sanderson) and Kathy Najimy (Mary Sanderson); and filled to the brim with camp, there’s nary a gay man of the 40+ crowd that hasn’t at least seen this film. This installment promises to deliver on the camp value as well with high profile cameos confirmed from  RuPaul’s Drag Race Royalty Ginger Minj, Kahmora Hall and Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté.

Hocus Pocus 2 will premiere on Disney+ September 30.
