NYC leather bar to host kinky short play festival

If the success of Baloney and Unbound on the West Coast is any indication, then kink and theater go hand in hand, and now New York City will have its opportunity to explore the titillating intermingling of these two passions.

National Queer Theater (NQT) is proud to present 2022 Kinky Pint-Sized Plays, a night of short new plays held at The Eagle NYC, an LGBTQ leather/levi staple in the heart of Chelsea. Kinky Pint-Sized Plays will include a series of short plays performed throughout various locations within the bar, allowing for a fun, immersive theatrical experience for all. The two-night event will take place on Thursday, November 17, and Friday, November 18, at 8:00 pm EST.

The event will be hosted by Nancy Nogood (she/her), a New York native drag queen who has worked with NQT and in many venues across NYC, including Queens Theatre, The Brick, wild project, and Joe’s Pub. She has also been seen on stages across the country, including Berkshire County, Massachusetts, where she produces and hosts an annual competition, the Mx. Nogood Drag Pageant. Nogood is known for using a signature blend of drag and performance art as a way to spit in the face of conventionalism.

“A play festival at The Eagle? Sounds like a regular Friday night!” said Nogood. “One of the best parts of hosting/working at a gay bar is to see the dynamics of queer community and bar patrons. To shine a light on that is just perfect.”

This year’s Kinky Pint-Sized Plays will feature six short plays, including:

A Distinct Gay Vibe

Written by Kristy Lin Billuni (she/her) and directed by Blayze Teicher (she/her)

Are You Gay or Are You Being Nice?

A pint-sized musical written by Ayla Xuan Chi Sullivan (they/them) and directed by Ben Villegas Randle (he/him)

The Master’s Tools

Each play must be performed in the amount of time it takes for the performer to drink a pint and will feature laughs, leather and dances on tabletops. The Eagle will be closed to the general public for the private event but will be serving pints to all leather daddies, divas and nonbinary baddies in attendance.

All shows are produced by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit theater company NQT, an innovative theater collective based in New York City dedicated to celebrating the brilliance of generations of LGBTQ artists and providing a home for unheard storytellers and activists. By serving elders, youth, and working professionals, NQT creates a more just future through radical and evocative theater experiences and free community classes.

Tickets for both nights of the 2022 Kinky Pint-Sized Plays are available for purchase online through Eventbrite. Tickets are $25. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
